The
community school is a meaningful concept evolving around inclusive
education, which means its application can be complex. This book
presents a synthesis of our community school vision from practices,
research and reflections conducted in North America, Europe and
Britain. The first chapter of this book offers key elements of a
community school, while the following chapters contain more detail on
some of its main dimensions. Conditions of community school
implementation and evaluation are described and analyzed, as well as
providing avenues for reflection, research and application of its
essential parts, such as family-school relationships,
family-school-community links, and integrated services or
extra-curricular learning. This book offers avenues to support
research but also practical applications in schools and communities
alike. Finally, this book is for all of those who, like us, believe
that schools must make concerted efforts to promote the educational
success of all young people, and in doing so, helping them to become
the citizens of tomorrow. It is intended for all of the schools’
educational agents present in the community (teachers and other
professionals from the school or the community, school principals,
administrators and parents) who are training or searching for better
school-family-community relationships.
